When I started out on my journey to build a better me, positive self-talk was a huge stepping stone for me. I had to start within. I didn't know what I was saying to myself, but it couldn't have been good.
After a ton of review and reflection, I realized that I wasn't being as nice to myself as I could be, or should be. I wanted to change that. I wanted to learn how to put myself first, build myself up and be a better me.
I had to first listen to the things that I was saying. There's always a record playing in there, over and over. It takes cues from all over the place. Your work, your home, your relationships, your upbringing. Over time, you internalize all of this information and it becomes you.
However, it doesn't have to be. Realizing that we have the power to change that is some magnificent power in itself. Just think about it, you can literally change anything that you don't like about yourself, at any given time. That is powerful!!
So, I listened. I didn't like what I was hearing and I set out to change it. I set out to redefine who I was to myself. To re-write the narrative. Little by little, and using these steps I was able to achieve my goal.
It definitely took time and I definitely made mistakes. I learned to be more forgiving and patient with myself. That is so important, more important than I realized at the time. I am happy for this journey.
Love & Light, Fam!
